The First Ruta · Episode 01
from the River
to the wind
From Anzio to Sabaudia. One day. Two worlds.
A route that ends in a glass.
The Project
One route. Two explorers.
Four glasses.
Ruta Maya is a rum made to be lived outdoors, not simply drunk. By the sea, in the wind, under ever-changing. Each year we choose a route, two people who have never met, and a landscape that asks them to move together, observe, and talk.
The first route is called From the River to the Sea. It begins along an irrigation canal at Borgo Grappa and ends facing the silhouette of Maga Circe. Along the way, there’s a sand dune, a wind too strong for those who don’t know it, and the discovery that learning when to stop is just as much part of the journey.
The explorers
Two worlds.
Same route.
Master · Wind Reader
Piercarlo
Ricasoli
Waterman and sports entrepreneur, 2019 Italian Kitesurf Wave Champion. He lives off wind and sea, turning passion into a way of life and work. Founder of PK School — a kitesurfing and water sports academy. He reads the wind the way others read a book. For him, kiting is not a sport: it’s a conversation with something that cannot be controlled. Technique comes second. Respect comes first.
“It’s not about courage. It’s about respect. Today the wind isn’t for you — and understanding that is the biggest lesson.”
Mixologist · Flavour Translator
Daniele Agostini
Bartender and aspiring kiter. He turns the bar into a craft and the sea into an escape. Aromas, flavors, and history fuel his passion behind the counter — every drink is a small story, mixed with patience and precision. He reads a bottle the way others read a book. For him, mixology is not just technique: it’s a conversation between memory and taste. And when the wind picks up, that same instinct moves to the water — chasing waves, chasing balance.
“IA cocktail is not a recipe. It’s a translation. Today I’m translating the Kite.”
The Day
Five chapters,
one route.
08:00 · Anzio · Kite School
#1 • The Departure
The harbor is still half asleep. The air is fresh, zero drama. One of those mornings that fool you — and that you’d better not believe. We load the car: SUP boards, paddles, wetsuits, leashes, kites. Check everything twice, because out there you don’t apologize to the wind.
Two worlds meeting in front of an open trunk. The Kiter, precise hands and few words. The Bartender, curiosity at full speed and the face of someone who wants to be there when something real happens.
09:30 · Borgo Grappa · Canal
#2 • The Canal
They paddle side by side towards the sea. The drone starts at their feet, rises slowly, and in a single movement reveals the whole journey: canal, lake, mountain, sea. The destination is already there, in the distance.
12:20 · Beach · Kite Lesson
#3 • The Confrontation
Excitement and fear mix together. The Kiter reassures him: “These conditions aren’t for you. It’s not about courage, it’s about respect.” This is the moment of tension of the entire day — and also the most honest one. Turning back is not giving up: it’s choosing to come back another day, more prepared.
12:50 · Open Sea · Kitesurfing
#4 • The Flight
Meanwhile on the sand, the bottles leave their imprint: the brand mark in the foreground, the kite slicing the sky blurred behind. Then the focus shifts — the figures sharpen, the glass softens. Product and action, territory and brand, inside the same frame.
17:20 · Beach · Four Glasses
#5 • The Return
“The best route is the one you didn’t plan.”
